MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience helps to develop health resilience capacities at individual to national levels to prevent and mitigate vulnerability to shocks and stresses that can affect health and/or health systems, especially in fragile settings. This brief reviews how the project will approach, build, and strengthen health resilience to improve health outcomes for families, communities, and nation-states, particularly in fragile settings.

Despite clear evidence of demand for family planning within humanitarian crises, response efforts suffer from several challenges linked to funding. Further, there is an ongoing debate around financing requirements to support larger and longer crises and the constantly evolving needs within the humanitarian sector. In light of these challenges, HP+ conducted a review of the humanitarian crisis response planning processes, cases, and associated literature to understand how family planning needs are managed and financed across humanitarian crisis contexts. This report presents critical challenges, key lessons learned, and possible opportunities to help improve financing for family planning as part of humanitarian response efforts. The family planning-humanitarian crisis response framework introduced in the report and the discussion of cases and issues can be applied to predict and address problems that affect access, quality, and financial protection for family planning services in future crises.

The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) completed a landscaping assessment from 2018–2020 to evaluate and build the evidence base on barriers, opportunities, and effective strategies to provide contraceptive services to women and girls affected by crises. The findings revealed several primary gaps that hinder access to contraceptive programming in humanitarian settings. Both the Report and a Two-Page Summary of Findings and Recommendations are provided.

The COVID-19 Taskforce led our rapid response in sourcing and sharing relevant information, developing programmatic guidance, and engaging in ongoing advocacy efforts. We began developing the Frontlines Implementers Network, an open and trusted virtual platform, that will the self-identified needs of implementers while also supporting IAWG’s efforts to engage, amplify and elevate voices and expertise of local implementers; actively match implementers with donors, policymakers, and technical guidance; and continuously inform IAWG’s global advocacy and development of tools and resources.

The IAWG Training Partnership Initiative led a three-year effort creating workshops and trainings to aid in transitioning from MISP objective to comprehensive SRH services.

The IAWG Training Partnership Initiative revised five clinical training courses to help providers achieve the objectives of the MISP.
