Unit 3: Preparing the Clinical Site, Identifying Survivors, Offering First-Line Support (LIVES)

Overview

This unit discusses the requirements for providing clinical services to survivors; common signs and symptoms of sexual violence and intimate partner violence; and the basic principles of supportive communication and first-line response (LIVES) for survivors.

Objectives

By the end of this unit, participants will:

  • Describe the elements that must be in place in the health system for providing clinical services to survivors.
  • Discuss common signs and symptoms of sexual violence and intimate partner violence.
  • Summarize the basic principles of supportive communication and first-line response (LIVES) for survivors.

Timing & Methodology

Total: 60 minutes (1 hour)

  • 40 minutes: Facilitator Presentation and Group Discussion
  • 20 minutes: Demonstration: First-Line Support using LIVES
