Unit 5: Pain Management and Continued Simulated Practice

Overview

This unit describes how to create a pain management plan with the patient and how to simulate a uterine evacuation procedure using Ipas MVA Plus® on a pelvic model.

Objectives

By the end of this unit, participants will be able to:

  • Create a pain management plan with the patient that is sensitive to their situation.
  • Be competent in simulating a uterine evacuation procedure using Ipas MVA Plus® on a pelvic model.

Timing & Methodology

Total: 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes)

  • 30 minutes: Facilitator Presentation and Group Discussion
  • 60 minutes: Simulated Practice with Pelvic Models

Preparation

  • Print, download, and gather materials
  • Bring all supplies for instrument facts and features, processing, and simulated uterine evacuation. Bring at least two of everything, more if possible. If possible, bring one aspirator per participant, or at least one per site
