The Centre for Healthcare and Economic Empowerment for Women and Youth (CHCEEWY)

Centre for Healthcare and Economic Empowerment for Women and Youth (CHCEEWY) was motivated by the outcomes of a team of researchers who discovered the challenges women and young people faced in accessing Healthcare Information and services, economic opportunities, political participation (including in peace and security dialogue), education, and Inheritance. The team decided to take constructive and deliberate social action to address these barriers by advocating for policy that supports the mobilization of women and youth.

Established in September 2012, CHCEEWY is a Non-Governmental Organization that serves low-income communities with inadequate governance and representation that are in crises or conflict settings that result in violence against women and young people. Activities are designed to respond to the challenges mentioned above to ensure women and young people are included in and allowed to participate in shaping the socio-economic and political systems at national, state, and local levels.

CHCEEWY Activities Include:

  • Promoting women's peace and security dialogue and ending gender-based violence.
  • Increasing access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Expanding access to finance and employment for women and the youth.
  • Promoting diverse participation by members of marginalized populations.
  • Increasing access to quality education for all.
  • Advancing agriculture and ecological justice for women and youth.
  • Ensure leadership, civic, and political participation of women and the youth.

These activities are geared towards community empowerment while also engaging policymakers, religious, and traditional institutions to influence policies and programs that support accessibility and inclusion. This emphasis on participation aims to foster understanding and empathy, especially in low-income communities of Nigeria.

CHCEEWY envisions a society where women and youth have equal access to healthcare information and services, education, finance, and political participation. Our mission is to ensure women and the youth are empowered with the desire and skills to achieve and contribute to the development of their communities.

Our Objectives

  • To ensure women and the youth have access to SRH information and services at state and local levels.
  • To promote women's inclusion and participation in peace and security dialogue at state and local levels.
  • To strengthen grassroots CBOs to constructively engage public holders and demand transparency and accountability in governance.
  • To ensure the participation of women and the youth in economic opportunities at state and local levels.
