Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Treatment: Updated Guidance for Inter-Agency Reproductive Health Kit 3 (2016)

This guidance, updated in August 2016, describes the new recommended Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment protocol for the prevention of transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the management of survivors of rape. PEP is now composed of 3 antiretroviral (ARV) medicines.¹ These guidelines are for us by qualified healthcare providers (medical doctors, clinical officers, midwives, nurses, and health counselors) who are responsible for medical care of survivors of rape.
