Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Treatment: Updated Guidance for Inter-Agency Reproductive Health Kit 3 (2016)

Overview

This guidance, updated in August 2016, describes the new recommended Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment protocol for the prevention of transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the management of survivors of rape. PEP is now composed of 3 antiretroviral (ARV) medicines.1 These guidelines are for us by qualified healthcare providers (medical doctors, clinical officers, midwives, nurses, and health counselors) who are responsible for medical care of survivors of rape.
