The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Area of Responsibility Community of Practice along with the Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises Gender-Based Violence Sub-Working Group hosted this webinar on the issue of technology in GBV prevention, mitigation and response in emergencies. The webinar features Sophie Read-Hamilton and was recorded on December 11th, 2019.
Sophie was the lead author of the recent guidance note on "Harnessing Technology to Improve Efforts to Address GBV in Humanitarian Action." This guidance note was developed through review of recent literature and evidence on the use of technology-related innovations in GBV programming in humanitarian and non-humanitarian contexts, semi-structured interviews and correspondence with technology, GBViE and other specialists, and analysis of case studies collated based on a framework for enquiry.
Sophie and guest Dr. Vandana Sharma will discuss emerging examples, practices and challenges in using technology to address GBV and how technology is currently being integrated in programming to address GBV in emergencies. They will share lessons learned about challenges and safety-related risks and other considerations for scaling up use of technology to improve GBV prevention and response in emergency contexts.
