A Workshop for Policy Makers on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies: An Introduction to the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP)

This training resource guides facilitators through the various steps necessary to facilitate a brief face-to-face workshop on SRH in emergencies and the MISP. The training is designed for an audience of policy makers and is one of three available training modules – tailored to three different audiences – on this topic.

The workshop consists of three sessions:

• Welcome, Introduction and Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies (60 minutes)
• The Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for SRH (75 minutes)
• Next Steps and Summary (45 minutes)

The facilitator’s manual provides a daily agenda for training and a description of the key messages to cover. All group work and discussion activities and their instructions are provided in this manual. These activities and group discussions are designed to make learning more interactive.

At the close of the workshop, all participants should be able to:

1. Recognise the importance of addressing SRH in humanitarian settings.
2. Describe the objectives of the MISP for SRH in humanitarian settings.
3. Advocate for the inclusion of SRH in emergency preparedness and response policies and plans.
4. (Optional) Produce and commit to a plan for integration of the MISP into emergency preparedness and response policies and plans.

Note: The fourth objective represents an ideal outcome of the workshop for policy makers. However, if the presentation and activities included are to be used for awareness raising only, it may be removed from the list of objectives.
