Impact

Sexual and reproductive health is a core component of the primary health care package that saves lives and upholds human dignity.

In 2018, 136 million people needed humanitarian assistance and protection. It was estimated that 34 million were women of reproductive age and five million were pregnant.

IAWG continues to work towards expanding and strengthening advocacy and improving access to quality sexual and reproductive health services for people living in crisis and humanitarian settings.

Milestones & Highlights

IAWG has worked to make sexual and reproductive health a part of essential health services in humanitarian settings.

1995

Founded after the ICPD in Cairo, IAWG began ensuring SRH is integrated into humanitarian response from the earliest days of an emergency.

1996

IAWG developed the Inter-Agency Field Manual and the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for reproductive health in crises.

2020

IAWG continues holding general membership meetings to bring together the global SRH community.
