The Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crisis (IAWG) has issued a statement as Switzerland and Sweden prepare to convene the Yemen High-Level Pledging Event in Geneva on 26 February.
We urge governments to consider the attached IAWG statement calling on the international community to invest in life-saving reproductive health services for Yemeni women and girls in the lead-up to the conference.
The pledging conference offers a unique and vital opportunity for donor States to work together to ensure the availability of a core set of life-saving reproductive health services in line with humanitarian standards as well as human rights obligations, including obstetric, prenatal, and post-natal care; contraceptive information and services including emergency contraception; and post-abortion care and post-rape care. This moment is also a historic opportunity to commit to strategic and lasting investments that strengthen Yemen’s collapsing healthcare system and build resilience for future challenges as set out in the 2019 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan.
We look forward to working with partners to support the inclusion of these urgent needs of Yemeni women and girls in the pledging processes to ensure that they are not left behind in this much anticipated and crucial response to the Yemen crisis. Please let us know if we can provide any further information.
