Newborn Health in Humanitarian Settings

The Field Guide is a compilation and summary of existing WHO standards of care for newborn health, with additional guidance on how to provide newborn services in the context of a humanitarian setting. It is a companion guide to the Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health in Crisis Situations (MISP) and the Inter-agency Field Manual for Reproductive Health in Crisis Situations (IAFM). The Field Guide provides guidance on essential care for all newborns and the most critical health services and supplies to prevent and manage the three main causes of newborn death – prematurity, severe infections and intrapartum-related complications. Additionally, it has recommended content list for newborn kits at community, primary and hospital level to supplement the UNFPA inter-agency reproductive health kits.
