Expanding and strengthening access to quality reproductive health services for persons affected by conflict and natural disaster

Dead Sea Region, Jordan
Kempinski Hotel Ishtar
February 25, 2015 - February 27, 2015

About the event

The fifteenth annual IAWG meeting brought together individuals dedicated to improving the reproductive health (RH) outcomes of those affected by conflict or natural disasters, and strengthening the regional networks for the Middle East and North Africa and West and Central Africa. The meeting focused on addressing the gaps identified in the IAWG 2012-2014 Global Evaluation of Reproductive Health in Crises and included presentations on current emergencies, transitioning from the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) to comprehensive RH, community engagement, adolescent SRH, family planning, maternal and newborn health, as well as new and emerging topics.

The meeting had three stated objectives:

  • Review progress towards achieving the programmatic goals and future steps outlined in the Terms of Reference following the 2013 IAWG meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • Share information and identify key areas of common work. Plan next steps and areas of coordination and collaboration for 2015-2016.
  • Strengthen the regional IAWG forum for the Middle East and North African (MENA) and establish a West and Central African forum which will serve to share information and lessons learned across projects in the regions and enable synergistic partnerships to fill in gaps and minimize duplication of efforts.
